City IMAGE - a little success story

It's a small, incredible success story for StadtBILDes and considering that this popular magazine will soon be entering its 23rd year, there doesn't seem to be an end in sight.
In the mid and late 1990s, Görlitz city magazines literally sprouted up. In addition to the long-established “Görlitz Mosaik”, which was financed by the tourist association at the time, titles such as “Der Türmer” and then “Der Whispering Arch” also entered the area. Not to forget the “Regio-Live-Report” and the “Heimat-Echo”.
Today it is hard to believe how much technical effort went into producing these journals. The amounts of data at that time were not at all manageable for the computer generation of that time. For nights, the data was stored on “zip disks” in smoke-filled offices to be delivered to the printers.
The first issue of “StadtBILDes” was published at the end of January 2000 and consisted of 28 pages and is still legendary among collectors today. But stylistically it was a horror under today's standards.
The trademark of the StadtBILD magazines and yearbooks at this time was the special color developed by the Dünnbier printing company on the inside pages.

In the mid-2000s, the printing market developed rapidly, and prices for printed products almost plummeted due to the high supply.
Online printing companies grew like mushrooms and a real price war was sparked in the area of flyers, which were distributed and displayed everywhere in gigantic numbers. In order to counteract this real oversaturation with litter papers, the publisher created the youth magazine “Nightliner” in a new pocket format (DIN A6).
But this development also had its benefits for StadtBILD. Due to the falling printing prices compared to the early years, it was now possible to print the entire magazine in full color without increasing the advertising prices for advertisers. But of course we had to
the layout was adapted to the new possibilities, the numerous ad templates were changed from monochrome to four-color, and the rhythm had to be favorable because of the print volume
Prices secured will be changed from bi-monthly to monthly.
With issue 40 the time had come. A completely new, contemporary layout was established and the transition from the word-image brand to the “StadtBILD” brand was completed. The Görlitz artist Andreas Neumann-Nochten was able to get involved, who also contributed caricatures for the removable “culture butterfly” at the time. However, the “Kulturfalter” was more of a temporary solution, as it was important to many people in the city to know the cultural highlights of the European city in a monthly printed product.
That's why the logical decision was made to develop a separate cultural magazine for Upper Lusatia, the “kulturrosso”.
During this time the collaboration with Dr. Ernst Kretzschmar, who had written sporadically for StadtBILD for many years, intensified. The first project was the book: “Görlitz
as a Prussian garrison town”, which had been hidden for years in a drawer of a publisher from the old federal states. The series of publications on Görlitz squares and streets with volume 1, Postplatz, volume 2, Berliner Straße, and volume 3, Obermarkt, followed.

To dhe series of publications by Dr. Ernst Kretzschmar, was joined by the StadtBILD series of publications with titles such as “Beyond the Neiße”, Görlitz street names but also the popular series by Mr. Riedel about the history of Görlitz trams.
The “Aenigma Aurea” project, an adventure triology around Görlitz, started in 2015.
In addition to the many books, our annual calendars are extremely popular.
We have been publishing the “Historical Views of Görlitz” calendar annually since 2001 and the large-format photo calendar “Görlitz - Cultural City in the Heart of Europe” since 2004.
The Günter Hain art calendar in Din A2 format, which is published every two years, is particularly popular. The reproductions of the honorary citizen's watercolors have been shining again and again since 2006 and in recent years as a two-year calendar.

Unfortunately, there is not enough space to present all products such as the popular voucher calendars, the Görlitz holidays, the Gastliches Görlitz, the dream wedding and much more in more detail here.
In any case, you will find many products in our shop. Enjoy browsing!
